KTM Duke 200

Bajaj will launch the KTM Duke 200 at the Auto Expo, although the official company lines also suggests that the Bajaj small car and commercial vehicles will be the focus of the company, and not motorcycles. The Probiking line of Bajaj showrooms will turn fully orange as the company introduces the KTM brand in India with the Duke 200. The pricing of the Duke isn't final yet, but Bajaj is considering price points between Rs 1.1 lakh (directly opposite the Yamaha R15) and Rs 1.3 lakhs (solidly halfway between the R15 and the Honda CBR250R). We expect the motorcycle to receive a national roll-out shortly after the Auto Expo.

Mercedes B-Class

The B-class, a larger relation of the A-class, appeared in 2005. Optimistically labelled Compact Sports Tourer, it was intended for the USA but never went there, which is probably just as well as it also failed to live up to Mercedes’ premium brand values.

Suzuki Electric

Suzuki Motor Corporation, the Japanese small car major is contemplating the launch of electric vehicles in India. Though the initiative is one of a kind, the manufacturer identifies infrastructure as a big challenge. The ever- rising need for diesel cars in India is on an all time high and the company is looking forward to come up with new and pragmatic solutions to cope with the rising concerns on the ecological front.

The Suzuki Motor Corporation Representative Director and Executive Vice-President, Executive General Manager (Corporate Planning Office), Mr Toshihiro Suzuki said, “It is under consideration to launch electric vehicles in India.” When asked for details, he added, “We cannot tell you what are the specifications. There is possibility, but the only problem is infrastructure in terms of electric plugs.” However, Mr. Suzuki declined to comment on the possible timeline for introducing the electric vehicle saying, “When the time comes, we will introduce.”

Going by the analytics, pertaining to the infrastructure problems faced with CNG and LPG models, the automaker says that the electric vehicle poses an even bigger challenge. He said, “Even in CNG models, there is limitation in the number of gas stations. So, it is more difficult to introduce electric vehicles in India, but we will introduce at the right time and it is under consideration.”

Asked about the possibility of introducing more diesel cars in India as the demand is much higher due to price difference with petrol he said: “We are trying to line up more diesel engine cars...When we are introducing more models in India, we will put more diesel engines.”

The company also showcased Swift electric vehicle hybrid, new version of Alto — Alto Eco, which the company claims to have a fuel efficiency of 30.2 km per litre. Besides, SMC also showcased its new Swift Sport and a concept electric scooter.

New Tata Nano

Tata Nano color options

Tata is out to battle lukewarm demand for the company's Nano with a range of improvements to the world's least-expensive new vehicle. Engineers have upped the Nano's power and fuel efficiency while decreasing emissions at the same time. The vehicle's 624-cc engine now produces a whopping 37.5 horsepower, enough to help the machine tackle up to 30 percent road grades and reach a max speed of 65 mph. The company has also reworked the suspension on the Nano with a new anti-roll bar in the front as well as a redesigned steering mechanism.

More importantly, the Nano Standard now comes with power-assisted brakes. That nicety was only available on higher trims in the past. Inside, the Nano now wears new materials available in three colors: beige, black or gray, though buyers may now select from a range of 10 different exterior paints.

Tata is likely desperate to do something to improve the vehicle's sales. While the company originally projected that buyers would take home between 20,000 and 25,000 Nano vehicles a month, September only saw 1,200 units leave dealer lots.

BMW New Series 3 with Sharp Edges

You have to know you're a bit of an icon when your reputation and sales dominance are essentially intact after six generations. We can debate that statement from all sorts of angles in regards to the BMW 3 Series, but the bottom line is that this sedan is still the one to beat. So, after our long-awaited first drive in BMW's new F30, we ask: Does it still deliver the winning recipe for the entry-level luxury buyer?

The Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Lexus IS, Infiniti G, Acura TL and upcoming Cadillac ATS will not be denied, and the 3 Series doesn't enjoy quite the commanding lead it once did. On the other hand, over 12.5 million total sales for The Almighty Three since 1975 is nothing to be sniffed at.

When talking about the sort of high performance testing that we crave, initial drives like this can only go so far in satisfying. That's because we had the chance to drive two meat-of-the-sales-figures trims at this Barcelona, Spain launch: the new 320d Efficient Dynamics turbo diesel and the 328i with new TwinPower Turbo in-line four-cylinder.

Skoda Rapid

Skoda Rapid in India

On the face of it, the Rapid, Skoda’s version of the Vento is the perfect example of what Volkswagen ownership has done to the Czech manufacturer. The latter landed here a decade ago and created a name for itself with the Octavia. Other models like the Laura, Fabia, Yeti, and Superb strengthened the brand further. But it’s the acquisition by Volkswagen that has really changed things around for Skoda. And their latest product in India, their first C-segment car, is a perfect symbol of this successful amalgamation.

Hero Impulse Review

 Styling and design
While you might get away by saying the Impulse is just a dirt-ified CBZ X-Treme, you would actually be wrong. Parked in a lot full of other Indian bikes, it sticks out even in black. It is taller than the rest though most of us managed to get our feet on the ground without undue stress and it is skinnier in appearance, the exhaust peeks out near the right end of the single-piece seat, dirt bike style and the whole appearance is an unfamiliar dirtbike styled thing. But it is well-made apart from some very ugly welding seams on the fairing and it looks distinctive enough. The chunky on-off-road style tread pattern, the tall 19-inch front tyre, the taller forks, spoked wheels and all make it poles apart from the current crop of 150cc machines.

Tata Pixel

2011 Tata Pixel Concept

Tata Motors has reportedly approved the Tata Pixel, a microcar concept it showed off at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, for production. The minute Pixel is advertised as the most efficiently-packaged four-seater in the world. It comes in at just under 10 feet long, and is nearly a foot shy of the Tata Nano's overall length.

Assuming the report from Autocar is accurate, the Pixel will take the place of the previously-proposed Nano Europa once the doors have been converted to traditionally-opening units and the gauges have been engineered.

The Pixel will be powered by the Nano's 60-horsepower, 1.2-liter diesel, which will be mounted under the back seats, turning a five-speed gearbox. No word yet on when Tata plans to have the car on sale, but it seems to be pushing through quickly.

The pixel is having special ability to tackle with the most annoying situations in the city traffic. It has almost zero turning radius by using bevel gears instead of direct shafts.

Volkswagen Beetle Turbo 2012

Volkswagen Beetle Turbo 2012

Volkswagen began building buzz for the 2012 Beetle long before we caught a glimpse of the first spy shots. The company's executives were throwing phrases like "fun to drive," "masculine" and "Porsche-derived styling" toward the would-be Beetle successor as far back as the 2010 Paris Motor Show. In this business, you either learn to read through hyperbole or choke to death on it, so it goes without saying that our hackles were quivering with skepticism at the time. Volkswagen could hardly blame us.

We had been living with the Type 1C New Beetle for nearly 13 years at that point, and the vehicle had grown into a caricature of itself. Back in 1997, the plucky bubble design was fresh and innovative, but as other automakers began to cash in on the retro design movement, the half-circle Beetle grew very tired very quickly. As a driver, it was merely adequate when it first bowed, and time hadn't been particularly kind to the chassis. Volkswagen wasn't just asking us to stretch our imaginations to cope with the notion of a sporty-looking, engaging Beetle. They wanted us to snap them in two.

Then the 2012 Beetle debuted, and sure enough, the two-door rolled onto the scene with a more vertical windshield and a longer nose. Those two attributes alone are enough to put it more in line with original Beetle design, and, as a result, give the 2012 Beetle a portly Porsche 911 appearance. Car gods help us, we like it, but what about that whole "fun-to-drive" thing?
